EVINA VINEYARD - VERDELHO, Contra Costa County
Our Verdelho grapes reside in the town of Knightsen in Contra Costa County just 2 miles from the San Joaquin Delta. Warm days help bring out the golden, aromatic tones of this variety but cool winds from the Delta help diminish nighttime temperatures and preserve its brilliant acidity. Planted in 2002, the Evina Vineyard sits on Sorrento silty clay loam soils, farmed organically by grower Tom Morgan.
FARFALLA VINEYARD - VERMENTINO, Dry Creek Valley
The Farfalla Vineyard is a young-vine planting in the historic Dry Creek Valley at the north end of Sonoma County. Sitting on Zamora silty clay-loam soils, the vineyard is planted to mostly Italian varieties in a nod to the rich Italian heritage of the AVA. Though no stranger to the intense heat of California summers, the Vermentino grapes have ready access to water with the proximity of Dry Creek and have been organically farmed since inception.
SPIRIT CANYON VINEYARD - ARNEIS, Mendocino
Glenn McGourty, a UC farm advisor for over 30 years, planted this parcel of the Spirit Canyon Vineyards to two clones of the Piemontese white variety Arneis in 1994. Uncultivated since inception on the loamy banks of the Russian River, Glenn continues to sustainably and lovingly farm it with his trusty pup Siaoban. As a nod to its Northern Italian origins, our Arneis undergoes fermentation in a neutral, 500L puncheon and remained on lees until just before bottling.
PRESTON VINEYARD - CINSAULT, Dry Creek Valley
The Preston Vineyard has been a beacon of sustainable farming in Sonoma County before that term even existed in the popular vernacular. Owned and farmed organically since the late 1970's by Lou Preston, the first plantings on the estate were Rhone varietals. We could not imagine a better grower-partner to provide us with this Southern Rhone gem. Gravelly, loamy soils and a hot climate make it the ideal setting for sunshine-loving grapes like Cinsault, and a commitment to biological diversity, ecosystem farming and a CCOF certification make this place a gold-standard of organic farming in the Dry Creek Valley.
POOR RANCH - CARIGNAN, Mendocino
Our Mendocino Carignan comes from the Poor Ranch Vineyard , located at around 1600ft elevation in the foothills just south of Hopland. Dry farmed and organically farmed by the Poor family for 6 generations, this 180 ranch produces fruit with an intensity and old-world sensibility. Our grapes from the Hub Block are head-trained vines planted in the mid-1900s.
BACK ROAD VINEYARD - VALDIGUIÉ, Suisun Valley
The Suisun Valley sits just south and east of the famous Napa Valley, at the base of the Vaca Mountain Range. Back Road Vineyard, where our Valdiguié lives, sits at the north end of the valley on Brentwood clay-loam soils, part of the large alluvial fan the valley rests on. Planted in the 1980s, these 40 year-old vines are farmed organically and produce bodacious bunches of juicy, red grapes.
SHAKE RIDGE RANCH - BARBERA, Amador County
Shake Ridge Ranch is an example of everything we believe farming should be: thoughtful observation rooted in experience and a deep scientific knowledge of soils and vines producing exceptional fruit. Though young by most California standards - it was only planted in the early 2000s - the depth and nuance that wines from Shake Ridge are able to embody speaks of a site imbued with much more maturity and wisdom than its history would indicate. Ann Kramer's thoughtful and meticulous farming of these iron and quartz-rich soils has provided us fruit since 2019. Barbera, one of the cultivars that started the wine industry in Amador County well over a century ago, thrives in this hot climate around 1800 feet above sea level.
